How to judge plumbing work

Most plumbing emergencies are the visible end of a slow problem: a supply line that has been weeping behind drywall, a water heater whose anode rod gave up years ago, or a drain line that has been narrowing with scale. The value of a good plumber is largely in catching the slow version before it becomes the loud one.

Water pressure, pipe material and water chemistry interact more than most homeowners expect. Hard water shortens fixture life; pressure above roughly 80 psi stresses every joint in a house. Asking what a plumber measures — not just what they replace — is a fair way to judge one.

Common service intervals for household plumbing (general maintenance guidance, not a service promise)
ComponentTypical service intervalWhy it matters
Water heater flushAnnuallySediment reduces efficiency and shortens tank life
Anode rod check2–4 yearsA spent rod moves corrosion to the tank itself
Supply hoses (washer)Replace every 5 yearsBurst hoses are a leading cause of water damage
Main shutoff exerciseAnnuallyA seized valve turns a small leak into a large one
Drain line inspectionAs symptoms appearSlow drains often precede a full blockage

What customers say

Bryan & Garrett visited today to access an issue with our drains. They quickly resolved the issue and did a review of our homes plumbing system. What we liked most about these guys was their personalities. It was like visiting with family. They were exceptionally pleasant, informative and friendly. American Rooter will forever be our "go to" plumber. Thanks so much guys. Great meeting you both. Respectfully, Scott & Mel

American Rooter Plumbing & their plumber, Garrett C.,(who was sent out to replace my kitchen faucet today) are both outstanding. This repair job was handled 100% efficiently, effectively, & professionally by a plumber who really knows his trade well & takes great pride in the work he does! He also listens to old school AC/DC which just adds to his awesomeness! I’ve owned an older home here in Omaha for more than 20 years, and I always recommend American Rooter Plumbing to my friends & coworkers because they absolutely provide the best quality work @ the most fair & responsible prices.

Outstanding and professional don’t even begin to describe the service! From the initial phone call, to diagnosis of the problem, to going over costs and options and then immediate repair work. Garrett is a top notch technician! The total experience was the best it could be!
